Join us for a conversation on data science with Chad Dorsey and Emmanuel Schanzer. Session Title: Data Science and the Modeling Classroom: A conversation with Chad Dorsey and Emmanuel Schanzer.
Dr. Emmanuel Schanzer is the Executive Director and co-founder of Bootstrap, which he first designed as a curriculum for his own students. He spent several years as a program manager and developer before becoming a public high school teacher and middle school academic coach in Boston. He is the founder of CSPdWeek, and has worked on standards, outreach, and advocacy, for multiple organizations including DataScience4Everyone, NCTM, and the CSTA. He holds degrees in computer science and curriculum development, and completed his doctoral studies at Harvard with a research focus on using programming to teach algebra. Chad Dorsey is President and CEO of the Concord Consortium, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming STEM education through technology. His professional experience ranges across the fields of science, education, and technology, and he leads multiple NSF projects researching the use of educational technology for K-12 STEM education. Dorsey has been a consistent advocate for expanding K-12 data science education, organizing coalitions, convenings, and field-building activity across the past decade, and co-founded the national DSE-K12 conference, which brings together over 250 researchers and practitioners to foster exchange and collaboration across the field of K-12 data science education. Chad took a Mechanics Modeling Instruction Workshop in 2001, led by Jeff Steinert and Jamie Vessenka.
