Module:Socratic Questioning

Event Picture

This module will be about Socratic Questioning, a vital part of Modeling Instruction. The module is open for members and non-members.

Description: In this distance learning module, we will discuss approaches to questioning that lead to productive learning. We will explore different ways to talk with whole group, small group, and individual students to help all of our students figure out what we are asking them to learn.

Jeremy Secaur has 20 years of experience teaching high school physics, at the regular, honors, and AP levels. He holds a BS in Astronomy and a Masters degree in Teaching. Jeremy currently serves on the executive board of both the Ohio Section of AAPT and STEMteachersCLE, and will be a first-time Modeling Instruction workshop leader in 2019.

Although she has taught a variety of sciences, including 9th grade physics, biology, biotechnology, engineering, organic and biochemistry, she is a chemistry teacher at heart. Teresa co-founded STEMteachersMassBay in 2017 and serves as the Vice-President of the American Modeling Teachers Association.

Modules are $25 for current AMTA members and $50 for non-members.

Modules are conducted via Zoom videoconferencing software.  Login information will be sent to you a week before the start of the session.

Any handouts needed for the session will be shared prior to the start of the module.

Cancellation and refund policy:
If there is insufficient enrollment (fewer than 10 registrations), AMTA or the module leaders may elect to cancel the session.  In this event, the cancellation decision would be made one week before the module is scheduled to begin.  All those registered will receive a voucher for free registration for a future module.
