Whiteboarding is an excellent technique for getting students of all ages to collaborate and express their scientific thinking. Though the middle school age group often needs more support and scaffolding than the typical high school classroom, it’s just as beneficial.  Join us, a group of middle school Modeling teachers, to discuss how we’ve incorporated this engaging tool into our classrooms.

George Nelson began his teaching career back in 2009 where he taught 8th Grade Science for four years in Arizona, before relocating back to his hometown in Crystal Lake, IL. He still continues teaching 8th Grade Science to this day. George became acquainted with Modeling Instruction from the 3rd MNS program at Arizona State University under the leadership of Colleen Megowan-Romanowicz. He also attended the Chemistry I and Mechanics Workshops in the summer of 2014. Since first being exposed to Modeling Instruction, it has had a profound impact on his classroom.  As quoted “Seeing students doing and talking science every day in my classroom as a community makes my career gratifying and rewarding”.

Erin Conrardy: I have been a Modeler since '09. I was introduced to Modeling Instruction during my Masters program at Arizona State University under the tutelage of Colleen Megowan-Romanowicz , and I have been utilizing the pedagogy ever since. Modeling Instruction hit a chord, and opened a curiosity within me that I knew I had to bring to my own classroom and now my fellow teachers.

Hi!  My name is Nell Bielecki and I am a 7th & 8th grade science teacher from Berkley, Michigan.  This is my 18th year teaching middle school science and I have taken two Modeling workshops; Modeling in Physics in 2014 and  Modeling in Middle School in 2015.  Since then, I have helped to co-facilitate three Modeling in Middle School workshops across our state.  I have used Modeling Instruction in my classroom for the past four years and I am very passionate about it.  I can say with 100% certainty that Modeling Instruction has been one of the most profound professional development experiences I’ve ever participated in.  My only regret is not finding it sooner.

In order to provide as many people as possible the opportunity to attend our webinars, we allow more people to register for the webinars than our current GoToMeeting subscription can hold. We've made this decision based on our observation that about 20-30% people end up not attending after registering.  We understand that things come up, so if you find yourself in that situation please let Wendy (wendy@modelinginstruction.org ).
To prevent any hurt feeling or ruffled feather please note that due to the nature of our webinar platform GoToMeeting signing in to the session is on a first come first serve basis. We don't want to bump anyone off, but we do want to fill our webinars.  Therefore, we open our sessions about 15 minutes prior to the start of the actual presentation.
