I have recently moved to a home on an acre lot between Granbury and Benbrook, TX. I need to to put up "screen" of plants in one area. 6-7 feet height would be ideal. Thought Spirea might work but I see it is deciduous--so would not serve its purpose in winter, I assume.

What is going on nearby this screen area? Are you simply creating a visual barrier into another yard or are you screening a pool for privacy?

What kind of water is available - is there a sprinkler system or are you looking for xeriscape options (the best bet for many reasons)? How is the drainage of the area?

Believe it or not, it is a tiny, fenced burial plot going back to 1864 that borders our property. It is not unattractive but my wife thinks we need to disguise it a bit. No sprinkler system so need drought tolerant qualities.

One thought was vines on the fence, but you don't want to plant something that could encroach on the cemetery, and many shrubs like Photinia grow out as well as up. Italian cypress are more compact, but they grow much taller than you were looking for. Two or three of them along that section of fence might be an interesting backdrop for both your yard and the cemetery.
