So what's the right procedure here. I've got about a foot to 18" high cover crop of clover and vetch over my beds that are to be planted this weekend. I'm gonna shave off the top with the weed whacker and then:

a) Compost it

b) Let it act as mulch while it decays

In HG's book he says to let the roots stay and decay but doesn't especally say what to do with the overcover. This is alot of mass and I don't want to waste it where it is needed.

Knock em down and use my normal cedar mulch on top of that. Sounds like a plan. Was worried a bit if I had all that loose foliage I'd have bits of clover everywhere. I guess it is St. Patricks day in a few weeks....
