Sure am glad to find this board. Our little (yes there are a few things in Texas that are little) town has no gardening club, one little greenhouse/supply store and I'm having to re-learn Texas gardening after 25 years baking in Arizona!!

I'm still learning, but began organic gardening before it was called organic gardening, and raised and jarred everything our family of 5 ate except staples and meat.

When we retired we bought a neat little house on a big lot with plenty for me to do. There isn't anything in the backyard except bind weed and another that I don't know - miserable critter though. And nut grass. I've already beat this year's stickers back there, although I know I have 2/3 more before they are really gone! Still working on the side yard...it's bigger.

Glad you're here. Where do you live? Bet TX has weeds you've never seen!

To Plano Patty:

We moved to Santa Anna, west of Brownwood. Neat little town.

I grew up outside of Ft. Worth, but moved to AZ. Yes it's a dry heat, but 125 is like living in a dry oven!! We moved back to Tx to retire. Folks are nicer here too. I've found a few new weeds - at least new to me. I still recognize a bunch of them, and I think this place has most of them somewhere on it!! But....I'm retired and have lots of time. I've already dug 3 large yard size trash bags of grass burrs. There is nothing in the backyard other than weeds....bindweed, nut grass, dallis grass, the little flat burrs, oh yes, there is one scrawny lantana and 5 beautiful rain lillies. And two that I recognize but don't know the name of. I look at it as a blank sheet of paper!! Just waiting for me to start typing. I've started some seeds of orchid trees, snail vine, silva, flame acantha and turk's cap. That should attract some hummingbirds. Plus they have an old trumphet vine just outside the gate. Oh yes, Patty, I talk a lot.

momf,
You don't talk to much. Keep it up. We love to read your posts. They are very interesting and informational. Sounds like you have a very interesting yard with all the diversity, including all the weeds. Better then just plane dirt.

YOU talk a lot?? Have you seen any of MY posts? Don't ask me about MY acreage.... :~) That's worse than asking how are my G'kids! We all will love hearing about your yard & how you have improved it, etc.
