I have tried artificial and real. Last year we sprayed that Hartz dog repellant stuff until we choked ourselves. Nothing seems to work! Will the cedar balls you put in your closets keep my cats away from the tree?

Aren't they cuuuuute the little kitties!!

We gave the cats a tree of their own. It had treats in it for them to play with. As they age they don't seem to play with it anymore.

What you have is a potentially dangerous situation for a number of reasons, affecting you and your cat.
Keep a squirt gun near the tree and squirt the cat as soon as it gets near the tree. It will soon associate the water with the tree. I'm sure some people might find this too harsh but think of the alternatives of allowing this cat behavior to continue. I hope someone will come up with a better idea.

The cedar balls helped for a little while. When they started batting them down the hallway, I knewthey had lost their effectiveness. We keep a squirt bottle handy to keep them off the counters and the kitchen table. It helped with the tree - during the day. This December we might try the "tree of their own" concept and see how it goes. Thank you for the suggestions. Sometimes they're just too cute to discipline - love my kitties.
