Mastiffs are typically very good with kids with little effort. Rottis are not. The real beauty of the breed is that their aggressiveness is matched by their intelligence. The aggression is not a puppy phase and it will not go away on its own. That's why Rottis require formal training and socialization. You don't buy a rotti to have a family pal, you buy a rotti because you enjoy the challenge of working with a powerful and intelligent animal. If you are not up to that challenge or are having difficulties then hire someone to help!!! Your kids need to participate in training too. They must know how important it is and be able to control and handle the dog around their friends and strangers. |
