Post subject:  Heartworm treatment

My new dog (a stray) has been tested positive for heartworm. He now has to go through some pretty strong medical treatment to get rid of the heartworms. Does anyone know if there is any other way to rid the dog of heartworm other than the treatment the vet is planning on doing? It's three days of injections and then he has to be kept quiet for one month (that is going to be quite the challenge), then one day injection...Can anyone help us?

That's too serious for me to try to tackle --- have you looked for a holistic vet? If you post what are you live in, someone may be able to recommend a good alternative vet

I don't know of an alternative treatment. I do send you and your new found friend the best wishes for a full recovery.

I have spoken to a number of vets and find that this prescribed treatment seems to be the only and best treatment. There are a couple of vets who do the holistic approach to help the dogs be more comfortable during the "recovery". I appreciate those who replied...I'll update you once we get through this.

There is a protocol using Paratox to get rid of heartworms. It was used successfully in a greyhound rescue in Florida though I've lost that article.

I need to set up a webpage with all of this info on it, but for now here are some links to check out:

I would talk to a holistic vet in your area about this information and see what they say.

Hope this helps!
