Hi,
I'm new to the forums. I have been using the organic program on my lawn for the last 2 years. I decided to play with a veggie garden this year.

I've wanted to grow heirloom tomatoes specifically the green zebra.
I started some seeds the first of Feb. I put the plants in an organically prepared bed at the end of March and gave my neighbor some of the plants also.

My neighbor is not organic and put her plants in a pot of potting soil.
It is 7 weeks later and my plants are only 6 inches and hers are a good 18- 24 inches with blooms on them. What gives?

My soil is rocky and this is the first time I've gardened. I used a premade mixture from a local organic nursery of lava sand, green sand, earthworm casting and I added corn gluten meal and molasses.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

You didn't say where your neighbor is keeping the plant. Your plant has to deal with cool nights & lately, excessive rain. The potted plant may be protected from these conditions. A lot of times potted plants initially outgrow garden plants due to the more controlled conditions. As the weather gets hotter, I believe your garden plant will do much better than the potted one. Also, if the neighbor is using chemical fertilizer it will make the plant grow very fast but with weak, watery cells. Stick with your program & fertilize with organics (seaweed & liquid fish work great).
