I have Bermuda grass, and i think I have thatch. What is a good way to get rid of it? Machine? Molasses? Should I catch clippings for awhile?

thanks SandiH!

Follow up on this. I have used an aerating maching before, but they are expensive to rent. Is there anything else you would recommend to get this done?

You can aerate one of 2 ways; with a machine or manually.

The concept of bermuda care is notoriously simple; however, it is labor intensive. Here is the concept...

Once a month - fertilize with the highest N fertilizer you can find. For organics that would be corn gluten meal at about 20-30 pounds per 1,000 square feet

Once a week - water a full inch all at one time

Twice a week - mulch mow at your mower's second to lowest setting

As long as you are growing it in full sun, it should thrive on that regimen. Thatch is almost never an issue in bermuda even if you're doing something wrong. For now I would ignore the issue and get on this plan. If you still think you have thatch next June, then let's talk about it.
