Hi ... My soil IS too acid. It's 4. Or less, according to my soil analysis. Anyway, my problem is that I want to significantly raise the ph on my coastal fields without using lime. It's dangerous stuff.
Right now I am going to loosen and wet the soil; put down 5# of lime on a 5 x 10 foot section at a time (I have 30 acres  ); water it in and apply a blanket of compost. Any suggestions?

Where did you have your soil test done? When? How much did you send, and where did you collect it?

I'll have to get back to you on the lab. The sample was taken last year and sent in by the fellow who laid down some compost for me at his insistence. He collected it from various areas in my fields. If it will help you understand the soil, my friend over here grows organic blueberries commercially. I have a little blueberry plant in my back yard.

Where are you?

Seconding that question...where are you? Location is the most important piece of information you can give when asking for soil advice. USDA Zones are worthless because they cut across all soil types. I promise we are not coming over to crash your St Patrick's party, but if you are close by, I can bring the green potato chips.
