Post subject: | Overwintering a still producing garden |
Hi! I've moved into a leased house that has a little garden in it that is still producing eggplant, okra, grape tomatoes, cucumber and some kind of thick leafed spinach on a little tower. I'm in Austin, TX and not sure how or when to prepare the garden for winter. I'm a real novice. There is also a tomato trellis with only stalks. Do I pull all the dead material out (or cut it down) and mulch the whole thing? Or are there winter plants I should put in? Help! I love the fact that there is this garden, but not sure of the best way to take care of it Thanks! |

Pull your produce off the night before a hard freeze. Don't pull anything out early, let nature kill it. You never know...if we have a real mild winter, you could be growing tomatoes through December! |
