Post subject: | Getting rid of volunteer trees |
For some reason, my flower beds are replete with volunteer trees sprouting up! Those that are coming up in unplanted spots I just dig out, but I have several that are coming up in the middle of established shrubs. I can't get to them to dig them and I can't put vinegar on them because they are so entwined in the shrubs. Any suggestions on how to get rid of these? |

I have a similar problem in several of my beds. Chief among the uninvited guests are Hackberry and Virginia Creeper. I can only offer what I have resorted to and that cutting the growths flush with the ground, or just below whenever possible. I have hoped that eventually the phenomenon where the plant uses up its energy and gives up would occur...but I am still waiting. Hopefully someone can contribute a foolproof alternative. |
