Post subject:  Ginkgo in solid rock

I've read that Ginkgos don't do well in solid rock. My back yard has some limestone, but there's at least a couple of feet of dirt on top. Will the Ginkgo do alright in this environment? I'd love to plant one, but wanted to make sure I wasn't misinterpreting the "solid rock" warning...

Thanks again for the advice....

We are in NW Plano, near Parker & Roundrock & have a huge beautiful ginkgo in the front yard. (here when we bought the house) I'm not sure how deep our soil is b/4 we hit rock.
We have some land near Bonham (60 mi NE) & have planted lots of trees...maybe over 75-& 2 are surviving. :( I think it may be due to the soil being so shallow. (?) The existing trees have flourished, tho.
We palnted a nice 4' + ginkgo there & it died after about a yr & a half. :(
Maybe if you baby it until you're sure it's established.
