Post subject:  Silverleaf oak

I just heard on The Natural Way that a caller thinks he has a silverleaf oak. DD said "there is no such thing as silverleaf oak. There's silverleaf maple but not silverleaf oak."
But there is such thing as silverleaf oak. Silverleaf oak, Quercus hypoleucoides, is native parts of West TX area, to New Mexico, to Arizona area. It is a very beautiful small shin oak with silverly leaves. It grows up 30-50 ft tall 20-50ft wide .I have never seen one in person, but it looks and sounds like a wonderful tree to have.

But it rare in Texas, more common in NM and Arizona, which is where the national champion lives which is surprisingly 80 feet tall. This is one tree that needs to be more populated in Texas, since is the only good "silver tree" (instead of silver maples and silver poplars)
