Post subject:  Fruit on a Red Oak?

I have a 5-6" Red Oak I planted 6 years ago, it has done well but this year I've just notice fruit(?) on it. The fruit is 1/4" - 1/2" in diameter and the skin is white with a lot of red veins, looks like a eyeball. I can't find any info about it and thought it was weird.

I wondered if these were galls! Seeing a lot on the sidewwalk-not at our house-look like a marble & the colors are pretty! I thought they were a child's 'superball'. orange & cream arbled colors & some nearly red & cream.

Thanks for the info.

Apparently there's several different kinds of pests that create these things. I wonder if it's the type of pest that determine what the gall looks like or is it the tree itself that determines the gall's characteristics? I had a few on my pecan tree that were marble sized and green. There half-in, half-out of the leaves. I've seen some that were peach sized just hanging off trees in the greenbelts by the house.

Thanks, I thought it was a gall at first but I cut into one and it had a real meaty texture to it with a seedpod inside, seemed really strange. Upon research on galls, this is the food source and cocoon for the wasp. Anyway very weird looking. I plan on just cutting them off and throwing them in the compost pile. :D
