I have a Shantung maple tree that I want to plant on the side of my house. I have blackland soil; water is slow to drain out of the hole (dug for the tree). Grade slopes gently to back of lot. What can I do to this area so that I can plant this tree? Drain system? What kind?

Well, it's not really the sort of place to plant it, so no solution is really gonna totally fix it.

Personally I'm a fan of the sort of drain that's a trench leading down to lower area then filling the trench with pebbles and covering with mulch till grass grows over it. Should work.
