What next? All our elms, or nearly all, have tiny black beetles all over the leaves. This is on 20 ac & we have no H2O or electric & don't live out there-yet. So spraying & sick tree treatment on the whole area is not too feasible. Mostly, the cedar elms are not affected, (YET!) it's the winged elms & what I think are Siberian Elms (not a good tree anyway) but we are so overly protective of each & every tree & hate to see any in distress. Please tell me this too will pass!! Patty |

Can you post an image? Do the trees look stressed? Are the beetles doing any visible damage? |

The beetles are sort of hard shelled, black, look like weevils that you get in flour, and the leaves are all lacy-looking & see-thru from their munching. I'll take a camera next time we go. Thanks for any help. Patty |

Well, I guess all's ok. Beetles are gone & leaves are making a comeback-turning to 1/2 'rusty' & 1/2 green, which is what all the elms look like this spring. This may be another problem entirely. Patty |

Well, this problem is here again. Tiny black beetles. I'm mailing a baggy of them to DD! Last year the trees recovered but if this happens every year, don't think the trees will like it! The bugs hop & fly & look similar to weevils. Prefer all elms, it seems. Help?! Patty |

OK, so it happened this time last year? What was the lasting effect? |

Last year all leaves on the elms looked 'lacy' & mostly transparent after the bugs were gone. This spring, all the elms' leaves are dark green & rusty brown- 1/2 & 1/2. I don't know if this is b/c they were eaten last year... I'll take the camera next weekend. Meanwhile, DD should have my bugs in the mail. Patty |
