This weeks Home page has a bit on damage that ivy/vines in trees cause. We're 'obsessed' with pulling green briar/honeysuckle/VA creeper/poison ivy out of trees on our acreage. Just cleared a large 'can't-get-our-arms-around' cedar elm & the bark was loose around the bottom in a few places. A few webs were underneath & the bark fell off when touched. The tree looks ok, there seems to be new bark growing & I felt the old was damaged/diseased?? It seemed to come off in foot long vertical strips and not all around the trunk. Someone tell me this one of only a few huge trees is not doomed?!?

I wouldn't think it's doomed fomr that. You're just seeing one of hte reasons we want that ivy gone.

Make sure the area gets the usual natural treatment and may hit the trunk with some garret juice with added Garlic pepper tea to discourage bugaboos form deciding to take advantage of the weakened area.

Thanks so much! I figured we'd need to mix up some 'juice' & hit some of the trees that were covered most in ivy.
