This is a bed in my back yard where I have planted Japanese Boxwoods along the house and Liriope along the border (dormant now so not visible) However, I plan on adding some Indian Hawthornes in from of the boxwoods, but need a tree for the corner (where the concrete bench is in the picture). I would like something over 8', but don't want to spend the rest of my life trimming it to keep it away from the house. I have tons of Crepe Myrtles around the rest of the yard, so that isn't a possibility. I live in Plano, TX. Thanks for any suggestions. http://shamblin.150m.com/bed/cornerbed.jpg |

Look at Eve's Necklace, Mexican Plum, Rusty Blackhaw Virburnum, Possomhaw Holly, Yaupon Holly. I don't know what the exposure is from the picture so you have to be aware that the trees mentioned all have a specific light requirement. Tony M |

Based on the other plants that will be surrounding this tree, you can't go wrong with a female Yaupon Holly. If you want some fall color and blossoms in the spring, look up the other suggestions on the internet or in Howard's Tree book. Tony M |

I think the yaupon holly is a great tree for you. I have a comment about the indian hawthorne. I think they grow larger and way faster than boxwoods. Your boxwoods will be dwarfed quickly unless you trim the hawthornes all the time. Please post a picture link when you get everything in. Happy planting. |

hi ........ one other idea you might want to look at ..... for a different look .... is a desert willow .... its one that howard suggests in his books for texas ........ it won't fill in with a lot of shade, but it does blossom these white flowers maybe 4 inches in length all summer long .... think it is supposed to grow to about 15 feet ............. |
