Post subject:  Prune storm damaged tree?

We had some severe winds this past summer and several of our trees (oaks, perhaps post oaks) were affected. Many large limbs were knocked off. The trees are old probably 75-100 years old - we live in an older neighborhood close to downtown FW. We pruned most off the damaged limbs back right after the storm, but one tree, the entire top was sheared off. Because the limb that fell tore the main trunk at the top, I opted not the prune the main trunk. I guess my question is whether I should make a clean cut at the top or just leave it as is.

Moore Tree Service in Dallas has helped me with several projects in Fort Worth. Give them a call to come look at the tree. They can recommend what to do or do the work for you. They have an ad in the DIRT (still using the Lamberts name there). 817-416-9995 or 214-350-8350.
