Has anyone seen all the dead or dying cypress trees around this area?

Could anyone tell me what trees these are?

Montezuma or Bald Cypress?

Bald Cypress. The city did not care for them during the summer.

Such a shame.

I heard that the state put them in and cared for them for a year and left the rest to Dallas. The city dropped the ball for sure.

The reason I'm asking is, do you think if they had planted Montezuma cypress instead of Bald Cypress they might have made it through the drought?

It all depends on how, where and when it was planted and how well it's cared for. Impossible question to answer. You can't just plant it and leave it. Even very established trees suffered and/or died during this last summer.

I understand what you're saying, both trees would have died.

I was just curious as to which was hardier under the conditions of a concrete jungle rather than beside a pond or creek like where I would expect to see them.

I have a pond that I would like to plant a couple of cypress trees but the little pond dried up this year. I cleaned it out and made it deeper by removing probably 50 yards of soil but in the event we have another severe summer like we just did, I'd like to have the "hardiest" cypress.

Don't know because so many other factors come into play. Whichever you choose, always give them supplemental water the first year and extra during severe drought.

Pond Cypress is your answer.
