Post subject:  USDA hardiness zones

What does this mean exactly. Trying to select trees to replace dying arizona ash and silver maple. Saw this on Native Trees of Texas website listed with each tree. I am 1 mile west of downtown Ft Worth. Wife wants a magnolia. Is this a good tree for this area

This USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Mapcontains temperature bands for your area and all of Texas.
