Post subject:  Cedar (lebenon?)

This cedar had Ivy covering the ground maybe for the past 30 years at this condo complex. I want to expose the root flares and there was about 6-9 inches of soil built up around the trunk. Not to mention the ivy. I dug out the soil to reveal the flairs and found a white rot just under this hard combination of pine needles, small roots and dirt that seemed to cover the bark. Is there anything I need to do to treat the flairs of the tree?

In pulling up the ivy roots I ran across several one inch surface roots from the Cedar. It will be necessary to pull them out with the ivy roots. Will this damage the tree at all?
