Hello, I have a multi-trunk Red Oak that is a Home Depot Special. It is fairly small (6 ft. when planted, 8ft. now) and was planted spring '02. One of the three trunks has fared well and has increased in diameter. The other two, haven't done so good. The leafs on these two are much smaller and less healthy than on the one good trunk. Does any one have any advice on how I can improve the health of the weak trunks? Or, is this just going to be a case of "survival of the fittest"? Thanks for any advice. |

Where are the two trunks in question? Ground level or higher up? How large are the two? Do you want a multi-trunk tree or single, so you can walk under it? |

The trunks were, at the time of tree purchase, all equal in size at about 1.5 inch diameter. They are all growing from the root ball (i.e. none of the three are branching off of another). Now, the most healthy trunk is about 3 inches in diameter and the other two are still about 1.5. I'd really like to keep it multi-trunk if possible. Thanks. |
