Post subject:  Grasshopper damage to young trees

I planted 3 pecan trees, a crabapple tree, an apple tree, a persimmon tree, and a couple of bald cypress early in december. All the trees have put out leaves in the spring and were doing great with all the rain, until the grasshoppers came.

They have eaten all the leaves and some of the bark. Will they survive? What can I do to manage the problem? The persimmon, apple, and 2 of the pecans are small.

Nolo Bait and encouraging birds to live on your property will knock back those hoppers. Caolin clay sprayed on the trees and anything else you wish to protect will also keep them off whatever you spray (or if they do munch it, they won't last long)

The trees, being new, are stressed this year. Check your planting depth and implement the sick tree treatment to see them through this year. Look for new growth in the fall after the sumemr heat has subsided a bit.

Post subject:  grasshoppers eating tree leaves

Last year the grasshoppers ate my trees & shrubs to pieces...I haven't seen any grasshopper damage this year thanks to the birds. I've been feeding birds all year, so the only grasshoppers I do see are the ones being eaten...its a great sight to see!

So start feeding the birds...watching birds in the morning is sure a joy. :D
