Hello, i have many crepe myrtles that i have bought from lowes over the past few years, i have several different types. All are ok for my zone. My question is this year i have lots of suckers growing around the base but no leaves? Did they die during the winter?Or is this normal? I have 4 that are fully leafed out and they didnt grow suckers at the bottom. This particular one os an arapahoe, also i live in western kentucky, thanks for your advice.Image

From the photos it looks like the tree has died but the suckers below are very much alive. You can cut the tree down and leave the suckers to grow. Your main tree should look just like the suckers by now.

wonder why then that all my crepe myrtles died this winter but three that are all planted next to a metal building.....i assume then that all the others are dead?
They do not look green inside like the 3 that are living. They all did great last year..........

Was it a particularly cold winter? How long had they been in the ground? The ones by the metal building probably got add'l heat from it.
