I was given two crepe myrtle (sp?) trees at the beginning of last winter. I planted them immediately just to get them in the ground and tied them down using bungee type tree tie downs. All was well for the course of the winter but when spring started the winds blew over the big one - the smaller seems ok. I Reestablished it and got bigger tie downs only to have the next big wind blow it down again. This time I dug a bit deeper and turned it a large root would help in stopping it from falling the direction it was falling and then tied it down again. Then the next wind blew it over the other way. This time i went and bought T-Posts and tied it to those in hopes it will better hold it. This has all happened in the last three weeks. My question is, this has been in and out of the ground and I am very concerned about it being able to make it. What steps can I take to maximize its possibilities?

Thank you!

I am having a similiar problem with my pink crepe myrtles. They were planted 3 years ago. They had been doing fine until this year. Now when there is a heavy rain or I water the lawn next to the crepe myrtles, they will totally slump over. One branch even broke partially off from the main trunk! I have been trying to follow the organic program. What could I be doing wrong? Help!!!

Well, it seems like we all need an answer. My Althea tree practically fell over after the incessant rains we had. I guess the root ball slipped, since the trunk was almost parallel to the ground. This is the third year it has been in the ground, and I decided to remove the stake it was attached to. I would think the roots would be established enough that it would not fall over!
