Interesting article on benefits of milk. Too bad the study did not include organic raw milk http://my.webmd.com/content/article/81/96893.htm |

I agree, I am new to this site, but I will encourage any one to drink like my family: raw, grass-fed, organic, jersey milk, and milking by hand is fun. |

http://my.webmd.com/content/article/81/96893.htm That piece reads to me as agribusiness propaganda. I gather it arrives as part of the dairy industry's push to sell people on the idea of eating three servings of dairy a day. According to USDA figures, per capita dairy consumption already is three servings a day (equivalent to ~600 pounds of fluid milk), and it has been about that much since ~ 1970. Of course, that sort of averaging may mean that some get 12 servings/day, and others get none. I am skeptical of the in vivo nutritional/health benefits claimed or implied for commercial dairy products, though. Maybe a better question is for what the extra dairy (organic, of course) would substitute and what other stuff goes with it. It's one thing if liquid milk subs for Twinkies, but another if Domino's pizza replaces fresh vegetables and rings the sodium alarm bell in the process. Commercial dairy carries some questions, and there is a lot of marketing money behind it to distract from those questions. |

1. getting advice on nutrition from any MD is false security as so few of them had more than a few hours of schooling on nutrition. 2. This article was pure propaganda for dairy industry. I read recently that milk for todays processed milk does not go to the bones or in preventing high blood pressure. Once the milk is processed, it was returned to the cow she would not recognize her own product. Milke is destroyed in the processing unlees it is raw, grass fed, and organic. 3. Calcium will prevent high blood pressue, but not from milk Remember - if convential wisdom says it is true then it is wrong and someone paid big bucks to get that image. Again - if convential wisdom says it is true, you can bet if you look at the issue 180 degrees - opposite - and you will have the real answer. Robert D Bard |
