I have several varieties of tomatoes and peppers that are doing well and some that aren't. I'd like to start some seeds now for a fall garden planting, but I haven't a clue how to accomplish this. Do I harvest seeds from the peppers and tomatoes and let them dry, then start in potting soil, perlite? Special treatment? Easy, hard? Thanks for the advice.

I'm getting ready to do the same thing! I generally use Rabbit Hill Farms' seed starting mix. I have good results with it. And I just reuse old black pots. As for seeds, I have used past years' seeds from veggies, but never current year, or I use organic seeds I have in packets from my shop. I would think you could just let them dry at room temp, possibly in the fridge due to all the humidity, but don't freeze of course.

I also will generally soak my seeds in a heavy liquid seaweed/water solution overnight before I plant.

Good luck!

I have some nice looking tomato plants I started from seed. I bought the packets of organic seed and started them in a sterile mix then later transplanted them into the ground. One plant has set fruit! Some may be too crowded. I have a hard time thinning plants for some reason...

I love it when you can watch a plant go from seed to fruit! Somehow, it is just more satisfying. I always feel like I am cheating when I plant a plant and say I grew it. ha ha. But then up north, the soil is much more seed friendly I think. I'm still learning, too - and seeds take more time and attention - something I'm a bit short of at times...
