You would lose a lot to evaporation. Soaker hoses seem to lose a lot of water to evaporation, too. Your best watering is supplied by rain. This is obvious due to the fact that rainwater is free of chlorine and all the other junk that is added to our water like flouride. Next best watering is from a sprinkler that delivers large droplets of water. This is because there is less evaporation. Small droplets evaporate faster.
To get along with nature, you need to act like her.
We have more success when we do (the best we can) as nature does.
