Hello, I am recovering from back surgery & was unable to start my seeds indoors as I had planned. I have some seeds that were sent to me this year. If I plant them outdoors how can I keep the birds(grackles
)out of them before they have a chance to bloom? I also want to start a compost pile. My husband mows about six yards here in our neighborhood. He fills up everyones garbage dumpster with twigs & leaves! The grass he leaves on the yards & enourages all of the neighbors to do the same. I still cannot do heavy lifting but I want to get started. Where do I start? Do you just build sides & leave everything on the ground or do I need to put a pallet underneath? Thanks for all the help. 
You have my sympathies! I had planned to start my garden last spring, but had to have emergency surgery, so my plans were delayed for a year. I did, however, get to start a compost pile.
