I'm wondering if someone can tell me when to 'dig' my banana plants ?
before a frost or right after the frost - and then also, can a person just
cut the plants back and cover with heavy mulch and leave in the ground ?

I live in southeast Oklahoma and sometimes we do have really cold winters and then sometimes we don't - anyway - just need a little
guidance on what to with them at this point . thanks very much - :)

When I had bananas I would leave them frozen back until the danger of freeze was over. Then I would hack them to the ground.

I would wait until I had hacked them to the ground to replant. At least their lighter then. Of course you are disturbing both the top and the roots at the same time. That can't be good. I'm guessing, can you tell?

What I've retained from Howard's radio show, wait until frost/freeze when the plant gets mushy, cut back to the ground and cover with thick layer of mulch. Some people put a piece of something ??? over the plant to keep it from getting too wet & then covering it with mulch. There might be something regarding this on the web site.
