Post subject: | 20% vinegar |
I have an area outside my landscape bed where I laid a six inch wide layer of decomposed granite to keep the weeds out of the beds. This works quite well, but does get some grass growing in it from the yard. I spray the decomposed granite with the 20 % vinegar mix. This is my question: Is it necessary for the green weeds or grass to be sprayed or does it do any good to spray all of the granite while I'm at it or am I just wasting my time and money? Thanks ! |

The vinegar works by burning the foliage, it doesn't do a thing for the granite. Once it's dry it has no potency but it does then act as a fertilizer, so I suppose it might give the weeds a boost. |

Thanks for the info. I wasn't really asking if it would do anything for the granite, I was wondering if it would seep through the granite to the ground beneath it and somehow stop any weeds that would be germinating at the time. |

No, it won't stop the germinating. Corn gluten meal will do that. If you put a thin sprinkle of it down before the granite was spread, it might keep a generation of weeds from sprouting. |
