Post subject: | Unusual Red-tailed Hawk behavior |
I was leading a bird walk the other day, along the edge of a wet-land area, with very dense vegetation. We spotted a female mallard with her young brood, and 50 yards later saw a Red-Tailed Hawk sitting on a log, with a large duckling it had captured. The duckling was so large the hawk could barely lift it. The area was very dense and wet, not the typical hunting ground for a Red-tailed Hawk. A re-habed Red-Tailed Hawk had been recently released in the area, so it might have been that bird. |
