I was walking around by the Trinity River near the zoo. I saw some big bur oaks and other trees . On top of the bur oaks, were (and are) some big nests of herons. As I walked closer to the trees, all the herons stood up. They were white underneath and grayish I think. Maybe grayish blue.
Some left the nest and soared around. I guess that was to warn other herons the danger (me) is too close. I immediately left as quickly as possible so I would not be threatening. Also to keep me from being dive bomb  .
Would herons dive domb? Does anyone have seen other nesting herons?

I live on the outskirts of a very small town. I have a blue heron that visits our stock tank. They are very shy birds. I doubt they'd be very aggressive unless you wanted to sit next to their nest. Of course that'd be tricky all the way at the tops of the trees. That's why they build way up there.

Very elegant birds and fun to watch.

On a side note about white egrets. Last year one of our large but shallow eight acre lakes dried up. On one visit we saw a small flock of PINK egrets surrounding the last pool of water. I can only assume they were eating something that turned them pink. Texas FLAMINGOS!!!!

The pink egrets were probably Roseate Spoonbills.

There is a large rookery near Parkland Hospital, at least I assume it is still there. I have not heard of egrets dive bombing interlopers, I know I would not like something like a Great Blue Heron diving on me.

We have a couple of herons who feed almost every day in small lake/ tank behind our home. They don't let you get too close.
