Doves seem to be overcoming the loss of habitat that has negatively effected so many native species.

Both Inca Doves and White-winged doves have been expanding their ranges from south Texas and are now becoming common in the North Texas area.

The introduced, large Eurasian Collared-dove (like a large morning dove but paler with a black band on the back of the neck) has been rapidly spreading across the United States from Florida.

In my home in McKinney I have had Inca, White-winged, Mourning and Eurasian Collered-dove in or near my backyard in the past 10 days.

I don't know about inheriting the earth, but they (dove) appear to feel quite welcome in my neighborhood. :) Their cooing is most pleasant.

White-winged dove have been making their way into the North Texas area for more than a decade. Texas dove hunters have been encouraged to purchase a White Wing dove stamp to avoid being ticketed for bagging one or more.
