Post subject: | Mallard behavior - female trouble |
I was sitting next to a small stream a couple of days ago and watching different birds come in to bathe. There was a nearby pair of Mallards just lazily taking it easy. Then a female mallard did a close fly-by. The pair of Mallards first reacted by moving towards each other and touching the tips of their bills together, a Mallard kiss no doubt. All seemed well but then the female apparently decided the male was two-timing her, so she turned around and started to swim away. The male then chased her and punched her on her back a couple of times with his bill. She then turned around and everything settled down. All's well that ends well. |
