Post subject:  What's new in backyard birding?

I recently attended the Birding and Nature exhibits at AmericasMart in Atlanta. This is one of the biggest gift shows in the country, and the first year they have had a Birding and Nature section. Saw lots of old friends but not a lot of new products. A couple of companies were showing fold-up bird houses made of recycled materials. Very colorful and aimed at kids. Feeders that spin to keep squirrels at bay remain big. Maybe a little more exposure to products made from recycled materials than I have seen in past events. The Stokes do have a new advanced bird guide out, if you like their style.

Not bird related, but fun. Also attended the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas a couple of weeks ago, along with 140,000 of my closest friends. Big trends are TVs with Internet access, 3D everything and 70 companies with products competing with the iPad. More birding apps coming soon, by the way.

Back to birds - thanks to whom ever is keeping the squirrels away from my feeders. Headed to the Space Coast Birding Festival this week and will report on what I see.
