My husband and I returned from a Valentine's Weekend away to find the kids and Grandma had hung weird strips of paper on the outside of our glass patio door.

Apparently, after months of keeping the kids from stripping the holly berries to make "pies" in the backyard, the waxwings decided to come while I was away. Apparently they had quite a feast, and were banging into the backdoor--thus the paper strips to scare them away. I am sorry to have missed them, but glad they found good forage. Unfortunately, my Lab decided that Pyracantha berries were a dog delicacy and gave the loaded bush a severe pruning, stripping every single berry :( .

I am seeing lots of bird activity, hope nicer gardening weather will soon follow!

We also have a cardinal pair that seems to have adopted us. They have been gleaning fruit from the top of our compost heap.

Sorry you missed the waxwings. They define 'handsome' in a bird.

I have a suet feeder that a mockingbird has declared his own. Yellow-rumped Warblers are trying to use it, bur if the mocker spots one on the suet, he flies in reclaims the feeder.
