Post subject:  Appliance Recycling

I'm replacing three kitchen appliances and want to know if there is a place to recycle these? I'm doing the installation myself and picking them up from the store so there won't be delivery people to cart them away.

None of the appliances are working at the time, but I'm sure they can be repaired or parts salvaged from these. In case you're interested, these appliances are Whirlpool dishwasher, Kitchenaid compactor and undercounter icemaker. All are about 13 years old.

Post subject:  try Freecycle

One thing you can do is try Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org). Someone near you may be an appliance fix-it hobbyist. Never know. One person's junk, is another person's treasure.

Or, you could call up the nearest metal recycler. They usually take appliances. They don't necessarily pay for appliances, but they will take them off your hands. The one near us has a large free dumping pile that you can take mostly metal appliances and drop them off.
