:D Just want to say howdy to ya'll. I was introduced to the dirtdr by a friend who is totally organic. I'm slowly but surely getting there. I love to garden but my thumb is not so green. Since getting into the dirtdoc's organic program my thumb has turned from black to a olive yellow.
I am not sure what to do with my soil. I have that awful clayish soil. Not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong. have added compost, corn meal, molassas, manure, humate, lava sand even cheated and added miracle grow gardening soil. Plants have done alot better but feel soil is still lacking something. The grass is doing wonderful but my garden is not quite as green as my lawn. But I must say my tiny garder is doing better than last yr. :D Last year my sunflowers that were suppose to grow 12 feet, reached to 3 ft. My husband just smiles, shakes his head at me. This year the sunflowers doubled in size. The bugs weren't as bad. I have a small brown irredesant lady looking bug that loves my roses. I remember one evening I went out to my back porch and as I turned on the light the walls of my home and porch ceiling were just filled with them. I wanted to reach for that can of pesticide so bad but I didn't. Instead I grabbed the broom and stared pounding on them. My husband happen to be walking past and he just couldn't help but laugh. He said he just saw this short mexican women in her night gown in the middle of the night pounding the walls, ceiling and floor of the porch with a broom. I guess I must have been a sight. :D Well, no matter, I am trying to stick to organics. I figure I'm not the lone ranger in this battle. I'll be checking in from time to time. Any advice will be most welcomed. I live in Cedar Park, Carriage Hills area.

Hey there Kent, thanks for the welcome, yep they are brown irredesant beetle looking bug, a bit bigger than a lady bug and yes they were eating my roses. In bright light they have a greenish color to them. Its on my to do list, to find out what kind of bug or beetle it is. It just that I have an awful long to do list. You don't happen to have the same bug eatiing your roses do you?

No, that's why I asked because I wondered if they might be beneficial. It sounds like they aren't. You could try garlic/pepper spray on them.
