Post subject:  North Dallas area - Newbie

My wife and I have purchased our first home, a 34 year old home in the North Dallas area, in a well established neighborhood and are needing to know where to begin when it comes to landscaping and managing our yard from a natural perspective. Does the Dirt Dr. have a book for beginners in the North Texas area? I would love to know what types of trees can be planted in our area, how to maintain our lawn, what needs to be done in the different seasons, etc.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

Regards,
Jason

I hope you find our input helpful to you. We were all newbies at one time! I would recommend the Basic Organic Manual as it is a tool you will use for years to come. Plants of the Metroplex is great for selecting plants you will enjoy in your garden and landscape in this area. My copies of both these books are dog-eared and I still refer to them often. Make notes for yourself in the margins! We are all here to help. The forum is full of knowledgeable, friendly folks who are more than willing to aid you in your new venture.
