Note the photo. This bug caught my attention. I don't think I've seen a bug this color before. It's pink and tiny. They are numerous right now in my vegetable garden. Does anyone know what it is?

definitely the larval stage of something....very interesting to look at. Check out Howard's bug book to see if it's there. |

Thanks for your comment. It does look larval. I have looked in a Howard's book and a field guide and haven't been able to determine what they are. |

I am fairly sure it is a Springtail species in the family Poduridae. I suspect the pink species is fairly rare. This group of insects are not well known at all. Great Pic! Info given to me by my PHD Ray Thompson. Thanks for allowing me the pleasure of seeing it. P.S donot kill them they eat mildue form compost or heavy watering but they are very benificial for the garden. Regards, Green Rain LLC http://www.thegreenrain.com |
