Post subject:  Sycamore tree problem

I have two sycamore trees that are about 12" across at the base. They are about 10-12 years old. This year, they are having a problem with something destroying the leaves. Both sides of the leaf have some white very fine fuzz. As the problem progresses, the top side of the leaf curls up from the outside edges in on itself. This leaves the bottom of the leaf showing. It gradually withers and gets smaller and smaller until it is about the size of a nickel and it then turns brown and dies. It stays green until almost the very end.

One is being hit harder than the other.
Does anyone have a guess as to what this might be? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sycamores can have problems with powdery mildew.

Powdery mildew, Microsphaera.
Heavy coating of whitish gray, powdery growth usually on the upper surfaces of the leaves. Some distortion of leaves and young shoots may occur if infection is early in the season. London plane trees are particularly susceptible.Rake and remove fallen leaves. Since this disease is usually not a serious problem for the health of the trees, treatment is usually not necessary.

Wet weather will bring this problem on - ususally in the spring. As weather gets warmer, it generally goes away on its own.
