I swear by Repel 30% Lemon Eucalyptus.
I depend on it for chiggers as well as mosquitoes. The label also says ticks.
Beware...They will smell you coming before they see you...but I like it

In case folks didn't notice, the August 2005 issue of Consumer Reports (p. 6) has a blurb on a mosquito repellent containing oil of lemon eucalyptus. The product they specifically mention is "Repel" [1] because it has a higher concentration. They report that this product worked better in their tests against Advanced with Picaridin and even Cutter Unscented with 10% DEET. ...wound up ordering 16 oz. lemon eucalyptus oil, 1 gal. grapeseed oil (google "carrier oils") amd 16 oz, soybean oil. Made up my own 25% lemon eucalytus, 2% (NOT 20%) soybean oil, repellent using the grapseed oil as a carrier. 100% organic, Zero DEET, great for your skin, and get this - so far 100% effective for me and the kids. It's a bit smelly (you smell like a eucalyptus plant), but it beats puttin' chemicals on the kiddos - and they don't seem to mind the smell. I think I used mountain rose herbs, but there are other bulk suppliers online. Much less expensive (and satisfying) than retail alternatives. |

I heard Howard talking about a commercial product containing lemon eucalyptus, and I believe he said it was produced by a company named Frontiere, and was available at Whole Foods and Central Market. So far, I haven't found it, but I haven't checked Whole Foods as yet. Have any of you found this product? I can report good results from the Cutter Advanced product containing picaridin. It smells good and is very light. The only problem I have had is that it is so light that it has to be reapplied if you spend much time outside. K |
