Beneficial nematodes are one of the very best tools for the control of many soil-borne pests and most destructive insects have at least one of their live forms in the soil. Nematodes are available in organic nurseries, feed stores and garden centers. They can be used year round even during the heat of summer if the soil is kept reasonable moist after application. These helpful nematodes attack and kill some of the hardest to control pests such as grub worms, fire ants, termites, thrips, and fleas.

I responded to your lantana post with a recipe for thrips.

Would you share that recipe you posted for the thrips? I"m having trouble with them on my tropical milkweed and have fought them all summer long. The best thing I did was move them outside of my greenhouse, but I'm going to have to eventually move them back in and then I'm afraid the thrips are going to take over again. I feed Monarch butterfly larvae on the milkweed, so I can't spray with anything that would harm them.
Thanks!

Are you sure they're thrips and not aphids? I've never heard of thrips on milkweed or lantana.

Yes, I'm positive that they are thrips. I have now been using compost tea and safer soap with fairly good results. But I would love any other suggestions that anyone else has. My county extension took samples last year and verified that they are Western Flower Thrips. I have not ever seen them on my lantana, but they LOVE the tropical milkweed!

I still suggest beneficial nematodes.
