Little bitty green grasshoppers (katydids?) are eating up my Turk's Cap, Hibiscus, and Sweet Potato Vine. What can I do?

When they're very small you can use the Nolo bait. When they're big it's better to spray the garden with SurroundWP. I did that last year when they got bad, but then we had a couple of unusually wet weeks when the Surround mostly washed off and the grasshoppers had their way with my garden.

Trouble with grasshoppers is that they travel, so even if you kill them with Nolo, your neighbor's grasshoppers will visit you. Someone who eventually invents a trap for these things will end up rich beyond his or her wildest dreams. ;-)

Thanks for the info. I tried some tabasco/water spray but that only worked for a very short while. Where do I get these products you mentioned? My nursery suggested praying mantis eggs but I've never used before and they are quite expensive.

BTW - that looks like a grasshopper. Katydids have a more leaflike body shape. Two of my dogs think they're delicious, but they can't keep up with the population on a half-acre. They also eat Junebugs like popcorn.
