Hi all, Last spring, I posted an image of red and black bugs eating my salvia plants. Now, the bugs are back, and I can't remember what they are or how I got rid of them... I know that someone here identified them for me, and that allowed me to go to a local gardening store and buy something that killed them. I don't have a picture at the moment, but I'll try to explain. They are about the size of ladybugs, but more beetle looking. Red with black markings. They seem to suck the chlorophyl out of the leaves, leaving see-through spots behind. They're really destroying the leaves of the plant. I did find a bottle of EcoSmart Organic Insect Killer in my garage and tried to use that, thinking it might be what I bought last year, but it hasn't helped. Could it be ineffective after a year? Any advice is appreciated! |

It's the 4-line plant bug. They suck the juice out of the leave in tiny circles. They are gone by mid-May or so when the heat sets in. They don't kill the plant, just cosmetic damage. They're on my monster Augusta Duhlberg salvia. I just leave them because I know they'll soon be gone. Also, I have a lot of assassin bugs in my garden that eat them too. |
